The Albert B. Alkek Library offers students a wide range of learning resources, including more than 1.4 million books, documents, serials and other printed material. The library provides access to 97,000 electronic journals, 155,000 ebooks, 300+ databases, and a half-million microform and autovisual materials. Over 2,000 software programs are available for use in the public computer lab.

The library is a selective depository for U.S. and Texas government documents. Special holdings of the library include The Wittliff Collections, including the Southwestern Writers Collection and the Southwestern and Mexican Photography Collection, the University Archives, and textbooks and curriculum materials approved by the Texas Education Agency for grades K-12. The library hosts eCommons, an institutional repository of scholarship produced at Texas State University, (http://ecomons.txstate.edu).

An online catalog provides information on the library's holdings. Wireless access to the university network is available within the library. Other support facilities include laptop computers that may be checked out for within building use and a computer lab with IBM compatible and Macintosh workstations. Lab equipment includes laser printers, scanners and adaptive equipment for disabled individuals.

The library maintains cooperative borrowing agreements with other libraries in the region. Through TexShare, a statewide resource sharing program, faculty, staff and students may borrow materials at most university and public libraries in the state.
