Leadership opportunities for students with all levels of leadership skills and abilities are the key components of the Leadership Program in the LBJ Student Center.

All interested students can participate in a dynamic leadership and life-skills series of workshops offered each fall and spring that provide leadership education and training. Topics ranging from personal development and leadership styles to conflict management and team building are presented in interactive sessions.

Organizational leadership programs allow organizational leaders to hone their group development skills while enhancing their personal leadership abilities. Established student leaders are trained to apply and improve their leadership skills by presenting and facilitating leadership programs for student organizations, retreats and conferences. Participants learn about event planning, motivating others, and improving presentation and public speaking skills. Leadership workshops offer students an opportunity to develop leadership skills while promoting campus involvement for each class of students.

The Navigators program is a selective program held each spring that gives students an in-depth look at leadership and how they can become involved on campus. The experience capstone is an adventure trip planned by the students.

These programs provide opportunities for student leaders at all levels to work and learn together in a fun environment and enhance their leadership abilities. Watch for these and other new leadership programs and resources, and stop by the LBJ Student Center Room 4-1.6A for more information.

The annual literary journal Persona, published by the English Department, features poetry, essays, fiction, photos and graphics by students. Persona has won numerous awards, including the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Literary Magazine Sweepstakes.

Student Media

Much of the publicity that student activities and organizations receive is the result of Texas State's active on-campus, nationally acclaimed student media. There are a variety of opportunities for students to serve on a campus publication or broadcast station and receive academic credit.

The University Star is the award-winning, official student newspaper published three days a week — Tuesday through Thursday — during the long semesters. The University Star prints 16 special issues during the year, including orientation and back-to-school editions.

Founded in 1911, The University Star provides campus, community, state, national, and international news, opinion, sports, entertainment and features, as well as advertisements of interest to the college community. The newspaper is distributed at 70 locations on campus and 40 locations off campus.

Students from all disciplines are encouraged to write for The University Star.

KTSW FM 89.9, Texas State's student-run radio station, broadcasts 24/7, with 10,500 watts of power. The KTSW signal covers a large portion of the Austin-San Antonio corridor, reaching from south Austin to central San Antonio, and beyond Lockhart and Boerne.

KTSW programming includes college alternative music and specialty music programs, morning drive-time shows, live broadcasts of campus activities, talk shows, news, public service and syndicated programs, and well as Bobcat football, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball. KTSW offers promotional services to campus and community nonprofit organizations at no charge.

KTSW provides learning opportunities for all Texas State students in the areas of music programming, sports broadcasting, broadcast media sales, news writing and reporting, radio station promotions, Web site design, graphic design, sound design, computer network management, office management, program direction, and station management.

All staff members are Texas State students. Participation is open to any qualified Texas State applicant from any major. Appointments for summer and fall staff are made in the late spring, and spring appointments are chosen in the late fall. Contact KTSW for application information.
