Registered Student Organizations
Texas State recognizes the right of any group of students, faculty or staff to form a voluntary organization for purposes not forbidden by the laws of the United States or the state of Texas. Student organizations at Texas State must be registered with the Office of Campus Activities and Student Organizations and approved through university administrative channels.
No organization may be registered or hold any meetings on university property until the organization has secured a university faculty or staff member as an advisor. The authority of such an organization to operate on campus shall cease upon the removal or resignation of the advisor of the organization, or upon the violation by the organization or any of its members of the rules and regulations of the university or the laws of the state of Texas.
It shall be the duty and responsibility of the advisor of each student organization to advise the members of university policy at meetings and activities of the organization. Policies include, but are not limited to non-university speakers, solicitation and Student Organization Discipline (SA/PPS 05.04), (UPPS No. 07.04.03).

Allies of Texas State is a safe-zone program composed of faculty, staff and students who provide a network of support for Texas State's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities. Allies display "Ally of Texas State" rainbow placards outside the doors of their offices or rooms that identify them as Allies.
In addition, each member attends an Allies training program and receives resource information to provide to students who may seek support. Anyone can register to attend an Allies Training; contact the Allies Coordinator at allies@txstate.edu.

ASG is the voice of Texas State students. It is a governing and advocacy body that answers to the student body at large. ASG has worked for years to address the problems and concerns of its fellow students. Members of ASG work closely with faculty, administrators, city leaders, and state officials to advance the collective cause of Texas State students. ASG is "Students Serving Students." Meeting times are Mondays at 7 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center, 3-14.1.

CASO recognizes the impact of a quality campus life on the recruitment and retention of students. Its mission is to promote an environment that facilitates and recognizes individual growth and fosters the development of civic and community responsibility. CASO supports the unique characteristics of each student and student organization in its effort to accomplish its respective goals.
CASO may provide advising, training, workshops, program planning assistance and resources to promote student success through growth, development and leadership skills. CASO also provides opportunities to become involved with the academic community while enriching and facilitating personal growth.

CASO provides education, programming, support and administration for the activities of the Greek Governing Councils (IFC, MGC, NPHC and Panhellenic) and each of their member organizations. It serves as liaison to Texas State and San Marcos in affairs affecting the Greek community.
CASO also supervises the activities of the Order of Omega (Greek Honor Organization), SOE (Standards of Excellence), Rho Lambda (Panhellenic Honor Society), Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA) and the 4 Square Tournament co-sponsored with St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

Phi Eta Sigma National Freshmen Honor Society inducts undergraduate students in the spring semester of their freshmen year based on their academic performance from the previous fall semester.
All freshmen with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 and no more than 20 transfer hours are eligible to join. Notification of this honor is sent to students early during the spring semester. Phi Eta Sigma is a student organization that continues its efforts beyond the freshman year with educational, service-oriented and social opportunities.

Fraternities are college men's organizations that emphasize social activities, leadership and friendship. They encourage scholarship among members, participate in campus events and contribute to community service projects. You can meet fraternity members as a group during Formal Recruitment, during which new members are chosen.
The IFC is the governing body for fraternities in the North-American Interfraternity Conference. Included among its responsibilities are conducting Formal Recruitment in the spring and fall, operating a student judicial system for member fraternities, and providing programming for the member chapters, which include:

The NHPC is the chief governing body for all historically African-American sororities and fraternities that are affiliated with the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. The NTSO is a support group that provides programs and services to the non-traditional students on the Texas State campus. Graduates and undergraduates who are older than average, single parents and those who, through life experiences, consider themselves to be non-traditional, are welcome to participate.
Because of the diversity of its membership, NTSO provides a variety of programs and services, including tailgating, socials, computers, study lounges, locker space and tutoring services. The organization charges membership dues to help defray the cost of programs and services. Students are encouraged to visit the NTSO Lounge on the fourth floor of the LBJ Student Center to discover the opportunities available through involvement in the organization.

A sorority is a women’s organization devoted to friendship, fellowship, scholarship, personal development, leadership and community service. Chapters at Texas State are members of international organizations that promote the same ideals. New students become acquainted with the various sororities during Formal and Informal Recruitment, which is the selection period for new members.
The Panhellenic Association is the chief governing body for sororities affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference. It serves as chief coordinator and sponsor of most Panhellenic campus programs and recruitment activities, promoting cooperation among its member sororities, which include:

The RHA provides a voice for residence hall students. It is the umbrella organization for all the individual hall councils. Each residence hall has such a council that organizes and coordinates programs to improve the social, cultural, recreational and intellectual atmosphere. The residence hall councils and the RHA address issues that surface regarding living conditions in the halls. Contact your hall director for information about getting involved in your hall council and in RHA.

SACA organizes educational, entertainment, cultural, and social programs for the entire student body. All students are encouraged to become members of SACA and join in the fun of coordinating programs on campus.
Recently, SACA has organized such programs as Battle of the Bands, the Slam Dunk Contest, Acoustic Music Nights, Riverfest, Poetry Slams, lectures by Maya Angelou and Spike Lee, Casino Night, and current blockbuster movies.

Student Foundation is a Texas State charter student organization under the auspices of the Office of the Dean of Students. It is a select group of Texas State student leaders who serve the university by promoting the positive image of Texas State through involvement in presidential, alumni and community events, as well as special programming. Foundation members are selected each semester, and selection criteria emphasizes involvement in campus activities, leadership and commitment to Texas State.

The SOC is a representative body and chartered governing council recognized by Texas State. The SOC provides direction and support for all registered student organizations at the university.
The officers consist of 10 members who represent different types of student organizations at Texas State:

The SOC is also charged with initiating special projects and programs that benefit registered student organizations. The organization helps to enforce the tenets of the Student Organizations Handbook and make recommendations for policies and procedures that affect student organizations. Weekly meetings in which applications for new student organizations are reviewed, funding hearings are conducted, and workspace allocations are reviewed. SOC members are selected each April for one-year terms.

The USAC supports programming and leadership development for various recognized, non-Greek, Texas State student organizations. The council welcomes and supports organizations whose membership includes persons from groups that continue to be underrepresented in higher education. The mission of member organizations must emphasize the promotion of diversity and equal opportunity initiatives in support of a global society and social justice.

University Ambassadors is a chartered volunteer organization designed to showcase strong leadership. Its members act as hosts for Texas State. University Ambassadors assist the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in the recruitment of a talented and diverse student population and help Alumni Affairs and the Parents Association with various events throughout the year.
Ambassadors are also hosts to thousands of high school students, families and visitors during events such as Bobcat Days, Scholars Weekends and many other special events held on campus.
Membership is restricted to students who successfully complete a competitive selection process. Ambassadors build strong leadership skills through the many events and activities they assist with throughout the year. Anyone interested in becoming an ambassador should contact the organization for a membership application, deadline and interview information.
