San Marcos Campus Area Resources

Texas State and the surrounding community offer services that can help for a range of emergencies, all free-of-charge. For some of the services all that is needed is either a valid driver's license or a Texas State ID card.

Bobcat Bounty

Bobcat Bounty is an on-campus food pantry run entirely by students, under the direction of faculty from the Food Security Learning Community in the Nutrition & Foods Program. The goal is to decrease food insecurity on campus by providing healthy food to students, faculty, and staff in need. Bobcat Bounty partners with the Hays County Food Bank to create a grocery-store style experience for our clients.

Fall and Spring Semester Hours: Thursdays, 5-7 p.m.
Summer Semester Hours: Thursdays, 4-6 p.m.
Closed for school holidays

Hays County Food Bank

Clients must provide name, address, number in household, and a signature. Certification remains in effect for one year. To qualify, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have a household income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level
  • Participate in one of the following government assistance programs: SNAP, TANF, SSI, NSLP or Medicaid
  • Have a temporary food emergency such as a natural disaster (eligible for up to 6 months)

Student Business Services Emergency and Short-term Loans

Funds available to students through the Student Business Services (SBS) are subject to availability of funds and meeting the eligibility requirements, including a minimum GPA. In some instances, a student who receives a SBS loan may also be eligible for to receive Student Emergency Services emergency funds.

Emergency Loans

The Student Business Services (SBS) emergency loan program is available for eligible students who do not have sufficient funds to complete their down payment for the payment plan. The loans are due within the semester borrowed and Texas State is your lender.Funds are limited, so acceptance of an application does not necessarily indicate that funds are available.

Short-term Loans

Short term loans are funds available to eligible students to assist with the cost of school related expenses. Loans can be made for up to $550 and are interest free but there is a $5 origination fee which will be added to your account balance. The loans are due within the semester borrowed and Texas State is your lender. 

 

The JOHN

The "Jumble of Hygienic Necessities" is a closet where students can find what they need, free of charge. It's stocked with shampoo, deodorant, soap, and other must-haves for behind the bathroom door. Call 512.557.8836.

 

Bobcat Pride Scholarship

If you are a LGBTQIA+ adult between the ages of 18 and 25 who resides in the greater San Marcos area and is experiencing an unforeseen financial crisis, the Bobcat Pride Scholarship Fund may be able to assist with limited, one-time funds. Examples of situations are loss of or under-employment, unexpected medical bills, or insecure housing. Apply online.
